The holidays are full of weather changes, busy schedules, travel, and football. It’s a crazy time of year, but the modern technology of the day definitely makes things easier – and more entertaining – to handle and manage. Here are a few fun ways to use Alexa during the holiday season:
Keeping Up With Football
Football is a big deal in general, and the holiday season is no exception. Games, big and small, are happening throughout the end of the year but can be hard to keep up on with everything else that you have on your schedule. If you find yourself struggling to keep up, here are a few things Alexa can do:
- Get Stats. If you are just looking for general information, or if you need to prove someone else wrong, you can use Alexa to get stats from not just current players and teams, but also past players and teams.
- If you’re trying to recover after your team faced a hard loss, you can use Alexa’s joke feature to help turn your frown upside down. Just ask her for a sports joke, and laugh away.
- If you are too busy to watch the game, you can still check the score using Alexa.
- If you are so far behind that you can’t even remember who is playing or what time the game starts, Alexa is also good for that. Just check in with her to get the latest updates.
Where in the World is Everyone?
The holiday season also comes with a lot of travel. It can get a little complicated to keep track of all your friends and family, and their time zones. Especially if you’re trying to plan a phone call or video chat with them. Luckily, Alexa is able to help you keep track of what time it is in all different time zones. Now, if only you can remember where everyone is so you know what to ask Alexa…
Manage Your Own Time
Personal schedules can become chaotic as the year winds down. Luckily, Alexa can let you know what you have scheduled. You don’t have to stop being productive so that you can pull up your calendar; just keep trucking along and use your voice to ask what’s on the schedule for the day, the week, and the weekend.
Have a Conversation
Amazon has launched the Alexa Prize competition to help propel the future of AI. One of the highly sought-after skills for AI is the ability to have conversations – instead of just responding to commands. According to Amazon, the competition is centered around “the grand challenge of building a socialbot that can converse coherently and engagingly with humans on popular topics for 20 minutes.” To test these socialbots, Alexa users can say, “Alexa, let’s chat.” Once you have held your conversation with one of the socialbots, Amazon will ask you to provide ratings and feedback.
