A man cave is a great place for a husband to gather with his friends, away from the wife and kids, to hang out, watch sports, and drink beer. Whether your man cave is in your basement or your garage, I’m sure you’ll be adding personalized touches to make it feel like your space – including sports memorabilia and other art, your favorite recliner, and of course, a stock of your favorite beer.
Here are five ways that you can design or upgrade your man cave space with smart home technology, to make it the coolest place ever.
Basic Setup
Before we get to the best stuff, let’s talk about the basic stuff. Obviously you have the biggest, sharpest TV you could get. If it didn’t come as a smart TV, get an Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon Fire TV to make it smart. A smart sound system is a great add-on, too. With a smart sound system, smart lights, and a smart thermostat, you can hit a single button and have everything set just right for watching a game or for gaming.
Smart Fridge
If you have a bar in your man cave, you can definitely set up a beer dispenser that will keep your drinks at the right temperature and make them easily accessible. But, if you have a little bit of extra cash to invest, you can get a smart fridge, like the one from Samsung. This beast has inside cameras, so you can always check to see if you need to pick up more beer or snacks while at the store, or if the fridge needs to be restocked. You can also check to see if the last guy to take a beer out took out the last one without restocking. And then you can ban him from your smart man cave for being a jerk.
Putting Green
If you’re into golf, a putting green is a good addition for your man cave. But not just any putting green will do – you’re going to need a smart putting green. By adding a simple sensor to your green and downloading the corresponding app, you can get all kinds of stats on your game, like your stroke time and rotation. If you use your phone to record your swing, you can see live stats on your video.
Score!!!
I saved my favorite for last. This smart tech is a combination of a few systems, but the setup is worth it – especially if you have a friend that doesn’t like your favorite team. First, I’m going to tell you the awesome end result, then I’m going to tell you how to do it. Basically, you can have a set up that lights up your light bulb every time your team scores. Every time. This is great for annoying your friends and also great for those times when you can’t watch the game. This works through a combination of the ESPN app, a Philips Hue lightbulb, and some IFTTT intelligence.
